FERNANDO ZÓBELCentennial Collection

In 1960, Fernando Zóbel played a pivotal role in establishing the Ateneo Art Gallery. Then a faculty member at the Ateneo de Manila University, Zóbel saw the importance of introducing students to modern and contemporary art. He laid the foundation for the institution by donating over 200 pieces from his own collection creating what would become the country’s first museum of modern art.

Nena Saguil Cosmic Collection

Recognized as one of the country's pioneering modernists and abstractionists, Saguil pursued her vision with conviction despite the male-dominated art world of her time. Her practice deepened and matured during her decades in Paris, where she lived a largely monastic life devoted to learning, discipline, and her self-directed creative adventure. Saguil once reflected, "...if I paint, I do, in my own way, in the spirit and the sentiment of the present." This reveals her intuitive approach and her commitment to contemporaneity. Her visual language-marked by orbs, cellular formations, cyclical compositions, and otherworldly panoramas-invites viewers to journey inward while simultaneously reaching toward the infinite.
