Collection: Charming Baldemor

Charming Baldemor, a wood carving artist from Paete, Laguna makes a simple statement about her work: "I like carving, and I like wood." She works with all types of wood but sets herself apart with the use of  upcycled wood—be it trees from typhoons or old wagon wheels—allowing it to inform the final form and style of her pieces. Her intricately carved minaudiére and handbags simply speak luxury fashion, sustainable style statement, and Filipino pride. What started as a thought experiment in creating more practical wooden pieces several years back has since earned her accolades such as the Best in Design at the FilipinaZ fair and the Natatanging Alagad ng Sining sa  Bayan ng Paete (2023) for her ever-evolving rotation of wooden bags. Part of the proceeds of her art pieces goes in  support of underprivileged women who are trying to get back  on their feet. Charming founded CBS or Charming Baldemor  Studios in 1997. CBS is intended to impart wood carving skills to young, budding artists, to showcase impressive wood carving  creations. The CBS brand has paved the way for artists today to sell their wares through “Pulido”—which recently won the Stilo  Artefino PAMANA Award in 2022, for its innovative mix of heritage and innovation in support of Filipino families. Charming has continuously carved her way into the industry by creating  pieces that evoke the feminine spirit using a traditional masculine medium like wood while pushing the envelope and surprising us with her mastery over wood, wood-crafting techniques, and  application in unique formats and products."
